Introductie
This male choir started in 1979 when a few former members of the famous boys choir "De Lustige Heivinken" gathered in order to sing again. They choosed the name "Oud Heivinken" as an homage to the above-mentioned boys choir founded in 1930 by brother Majoor of the Brothers of Christian Schools. Since 1994 they have opted resolutely for the name "M.K. De Heivinken".
Led by the conductor Jean Muysers the group grew into a very reputable male choir consisting of about 50 singing members. The choir practises different styles, languages and music genres, but it is always the quality that predominates. The "Heivinken" is a group of friends who take pleasure in singing together and they want to demonstrate it to their public.
In the course of the past years they have brought performances as well at home as abroad, in Antwerp, Brussels, Genk, Paris, Mainz, Worms, Echternach, Eguisheim (Alsace), Meyel (Netherlands), Alden Biesen, ...In 1988 they won the International Meeting of Choirs in Raeren for the third time thereby bringing the challenge cup to Genk permanently.
Since 2005 the choir is conducted by Eugène Colson.
